2016: Our Year in Review

December 28, 2016

As 2016 draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the past 12 months for Huduma and look ahead to what 2017 has in store.

Here’s what we’ve been up to this year.

2016 has been a year crammed full of business, busyness, projects, people, and much more. From moving into our new office space on Harwell Campus, to beginning work on several high-profile projects, launching our new website to welcoming new employees and clients to the company, we have experienced a lot of growth and change in 12 months!

RPAS Intelligent Parcel Delivery

A notable highlight of the year has been completing the feasibility study phase of the RPAS Intelligent Parcel Delivery project. Co-sponsored by The European Space Agency, this ambitious project aims to utilise Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (commonly known as UAVs) for parcel delivery to remote locations.

In October and November, we held two Showcase events in the UK and the Netherlands to present our results so far and received great feedback from our stakeholders. Following on from the feasibility study, we intend to pursue a demonstration project to move RPAS IPD closer to live service.

i-Motors

2016 has also marked the launch of the i-Motors project. Co-funded by government and industry, this project aims to create a universal set of guidelines for vehicle-to-vehicle communications, and add contextual and predictive intelligence to connected and autonomous vehicles. The 24-month project formally began in May, and we are excited to see how the i-Motors service will develop.

People

We have had the great pleasure of meeting and working with many fantastic people through our projects, clients, and groups such as IoT Oxford and IoT Thames Valley. Over the summer, we were delighted to have two interns from the Satellite Applications Catapult’s SPIN programme join our team to assist with business research and graphic design respectively. We have also welcomed several new clients to Huduma over the year, and are very excited to continue working with them in the New Year.

Didcot First Business & Community Awards

2016 finished on a high-note for Huduma Limited, as we were shortlisted in two categories for the Didcot First Business & Community Awards. We had a fantastic time attending the awards ceremony at the Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot in November. Despite not winning in our respective categories, we were very proud to have made the shortlist. You can view a full list of all the nominees and winners here.

Looking ahead

In the run up to the New Year, we would like to thank all of our sponsors, stakeholders, project participants, suppliers, and clients for making 2016 a truly memorable year. We very much look forward to continuing to collaborate with you in 2017.

Thank you

We would also like to give special thanks to: Head Communications, for its brilliant leadership of the RPAS IPD Project; the autonomous systems group at RAL Space for its hard work on the RPAS IPD project; the i-Motors project consortium; ESA and Innovate UK for their ongoing support of our current projects; the STFC facilities team at Harwell Campus for helping Huduma get established on site and making us welcome on campus; Phase Two Design for designing our new website; and Eleanor Horswell for her marketing, web content and social media contributions.

You have all played a crucial part in making our year as successful as it has been, so thank you!

We’re looking forward to what next year has in store.
